Medical Malpractice: An Introduction to the Dental Practitioner
With the plethora of medical malpractice claims, health care providers are forced to deal not only with medical matters but also with legal issues. Most medical malpractice cases will be resolved in civil law and will have financial implications. The lecture focuses on tort law and basic legal terms in malpractice law, such as the meaning of "negligence", reviewing the main different liability regimes and the legal elements that must be proven in each regime in order to receive compensation as well as some 'Do's and Don'ts' advice.
Inbal Blau is a Ph.D. Candidate and a lecturer at the law Faculty, Tel-Aviv University, Israel, and a post-doctoral fellow at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, School of Dentistry, University of Alberta, Canada, under the supervision of Prof. Liran Levin. She earned both her LLB and LLM degrees from the Faculty of Law at Tel-Aviv University. Her specialty is in tort law, medical law and health law issues. Her dissertation deals with compensation in mass tort medical events. Inbal taught courses for LLM students as well as for LLB students at Tel-Aviv University, and won the Rector's prize for excellence in teaching. She was also the elected chair of the junior academic staff association at Tel-Aviv University and worked for many years as a lawyer in the field of civil law, including as senior law clerk in the Economical Department of the District Court of Tel Aviv. Inbal also served as an Editor of "Law, Society and Culture" law review of Tel-Aviv University.
