Join members of the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry for Destination Education! Project Aloha, a week long educational event, held at the Aulani Disney Resort Oahu, will feature Dr Saranjeev Lalh and Dr Jaggi Rao, leading specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dermatology, respectively. Topics will explore surgical, medical and esthetic care in dentistry.

This event is in partial collaboration with MNP, a national tax, accounting and business management firm. Speakers Calvin Carpenter and Tim Dawson will examine financial and estate planning for the Dentist and their family, tax planning for Dentists and their professional corporations, maximizing financial write-offs, and managing profitable practices.

SPEAKERS:

DR. SARANJEEV LALH, B.Sc., D.D.S., M.D., F.R.C.D. (C)
Dr. Lalh received his Dental degree from University of Alberta in 1994 and his Medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 2008.  He completed two years of General Surgery training followed by completion of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh in 2001.   Dr. Lalh received his Fellowship status of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 2002.

Dr. Lalh then went on to pursue academics by becoming the Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Co-Director of the Dental Implant Clinic at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry from 2001 to 2007. He now continues teaching on a part time basis as a Clinical Professor. He founded Renew Oral & Facial Surgical Centre, a private certified non-hospital surgical centre in 2005.  He has subsequently transitioned from academics into full time private practice, devoting his clinical practice to implant surgery, dentoalveolar surgery, facial reconstructive and orthognathic surgery, and cosmetic facial plastic surgery.

He was recently appointed the Oral and Maxillofacial Reconstruction Surgeon at the internationally recognized clinical and research Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine (iRSM) at the Misercordia Hospital and Covenant Health, dealing with reconstruction of patient’s with head and neck cancer.  Dr. Lalh also continues to conduct evidence based research through the University of Alberta and has had the opportunity to lecture extensively both nationally and internationally on various surgical topics. His special interest is using new technological advances in digital imaging for reconstructive surgical procedures.

DR. JAMES MAH, B.Sc., D.D.S., M.D., D.MSc
Dr. James Mah is a Clinical Professor and the Program Director in Orthodontics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His research is focused on 3-Dimensional imaging and modeling for the purposes of diagnosis, treatment planning and therapeutics as well as anthrpology and forensics. He has been involved in the research and development of 3-D facial imaging devices, intra-oral scanners, CAD/CAM applications in dentistry and cone-beam CT scanners. He obtained his Doctorate of Dental Surgery, Master of Science degrees and his Certificate of Specialization in Orthodontics from the University of Alberta. Following he graduated from Harvard Medical School with a Doctorate of Medical Science degree and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedics at Children’s Hospital, Boston. Dr. Mah has authored numerous publications, textbooks, and book chapters and regularly presents nationally and internationally. In addition, his work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, The National Post, Tech TV and Men’s Health. He also reviews for the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, the American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics and other dental journals.

DR. JAGGI RAO,  MD, FRCPC (Dermatology)
Dr. Jaggi Rao is an award-winning Dermatologist & Dermatologic Surgeon who is Board Certified in both Canada and the USA.  Dr. Rao is also a graduate of the prestigious American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship Program, which he completed in Southern California in 2004. 

Dr. Rao is a full Clinical Professor of Medicine and serves as the Dermatology Residency Program Director at the University of Alberta.  He is an accomplished author and presenter, as well as a notable medical expert for other physicians, industry and academia.

CALVIN CARPENTER, CPA, CA
Calvin Carpenter is the Vice President of MNP’s Professional Services team. Working closely with medical and dental professionals, Calvin provides valuable advice to help clients reach their business and personal goals. Calvins’s experience in forecasting, tax planning and other key areas helps ensure his clients have a sound strategy for the future. He specializes in developing customized plans for clients interested in starting or purchasing their own practice.
