COURSE DESCRIPTION
The science behind ultrasonic debridement is changing rapidly! Current research shows that Canadian Dental Hygienists are underutilizing and incorrectly implementing ultrasonics. This unique 2 part education series will combine learning through an online theory session plus hands on application using simulated calculus and biofilm and live ultrasonic equipment.  Build on your current ultrasonic knowledge with cutting-edge teaching methods and reach clinical end-point with ultrasonics – Shape Matters!  RDHs of all levels and users of magnetostrictive or piezo technology will see improved clinical performance after completing this workshop.   If your goal is to improve periodontal clinical outcomes for your patients and reduce stress on your body – this course is for you!

COURSE OBJECTIVES
• INCREASE REMOVAL OF CALCULUS & BIOFILM
• LEARN TECHNIQUE OVERSIGHTS THAT HINDER CLINICAL OUTCOMES
• SIMPLIFY CURVED LEFT & RIGHT INSTRUMENTS

At the completion of this course the participant will be able to:
• Describe the benefits and challenges of ultrasonic technology for
the removal of calculus and BIOFILM and compare the differences
and similarities between traditional and contemporary ultrasonic
debridement
• Identify and compare ultrasonic instrument characteristics (diameter,
shape, cross section, length, tip activity) & demonstrate sequencing needed to reduce the adjunct use of hand instruments, rubber cup or air polishing.
• Demonstrate the most effective principles of ultrasonic instrumentation including
grasp, fulcrum, insertion, lateral pressure, activation and adaptation.
• Use a minimum of 6 different varieties of ultrasonic instruments to master the principles
of ultrasonic instrumentation. State the rational for reducing/eliminating curettes.
• Describe benefits and limitations of straight and curved ultrasonic instruments.
Demonstrate effective curved instrument adaptation in furcations, concavities and
curved root surfaces in all 4 quadrants of the oral cavity. Use a curved ultrasonic
instrument to completely remove simulated biofilm from an artificial furcation.

You will recieve a confirmation email after registration to confirm which courses you would like to register for on July 20.
