COURSE INFORMATION

Participants in this hands-on course will learn canal instrumentation utilizing X-SMART IQTM Cordless Motor (via Bluetooth) using reciprocating WaveOne Gold GlidersTM and WaveOne GoldTM NiTi files.  Plastic blocks/natural teeth will be instrumented using these reciprocating NiTi files. Then having prepared canals, participants will simulate the most effective delivery, sequence of administration, and activation of irrigants, to achieve canal disinfection. After effective root canal disinfection incorporating Qmix, obturation of prepared canals will be done using GuttaCoreTM.

At the end of the presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the importance and development of glide path in root canal instrumentation
  • Prepare a glide path using Wave One Gold Gliders
  • Performing root canal instrumentation with WaveOne Gold using X-SMART IQ
  • Describe an irrigation protocol that will enhance disinfection of the root canal system
  • Choose irrigation needles that will safely deliver irrigant to root canals
  • Perform root canal obturation using GuttaCore.

PRESENTER

DR. JEFF COIL, DMD, MSD, PhD, FRCD(C), FADI, FACD 

Dr. Coil received his undergraduate, dental and doctorate degrees from the University of British Columbia.  He practiced general dentistry for 8 years and was a Clinical Instructor in Endodontics and Periodontics, before obtaining his certificate in Endodontics at the University of Washington in 1993.

He serves as an editorial consultant for the Journal of the CDA and on the Scientific Advisory Board for the Journal of Endodontics.  He is a past President of the CAE, and is a member of the British Columbia Society of Endodontists and the AAE.  Dr. Coil is the mentor of the Northwest Endodontic Study Club and Seminar, and is currently the Director of the Graduate Endodontics Program, Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences, University of British Columbia.
